I wish it was that simple. Quite often I see "Re", and all it means is that
the OP just didn't show up on my screen, for reasons known only to my news
server.

My newserver shows everything that I allow. I there is a re it's a reply to
someone I have killfiled.
I rarely killfile, have to be nasty bad for that.

If the subject interests you, read it and if you reply cut out the
person killfiled, so as not to proliferate their rubbish. I have very
few people kf-ed and find that, often, I can id a thread started by one
of those people simply by the subject heading (they're very
predictable) so I can ignore it easily, if the following replies don't
interest me.

"Re" is a just feature of some newsreaders. Once somebody posts
from a newsreader that inserts "re" in their post headers, other
newsreaders will replicate the "re" in replies.
"re" in a header, does not signify all the posters in that thread
are in a killfile.
