hi-
I've been clearing out a VERY overgrown garden and after clearing
untold brambles/nettles have discovered a few rose plants in the
flowerbeds.
Unfortunately, due to aforementioned brambles/nettles, these roses
stems have had to grow upwards, and are about 6 foot long now
(although they bend over). All the buds are on the last 3 feet of the
stem : the lower half of the stem appears to have no side branches and
no buds - just a means to grow above the previous weeds and brambles.
Now I've cleared the flowerbeds, these roses look far too tall and
oversized for the beds - I'd like to cut them down, but I've read that
you're supposed to prune roses just above a bud.
Presumably these rose plants are well settled and ensconced, but how
do I make them small again? I'm willing to do something that will cost
a year or so before they start looking good - if that's what it takes,
but just not sure what to do...
Any help please?
Thanks!

What is wrong with the help you've already received? Why ask the same
question again?

ok - I look like an idiot now :) My computer froze the other evening
when I was attempting to send the message and I'd assumed it hadn't
gone through... that'll teach me to check first.
I've just seen that there are replies to my initial message, so Iet's
close this thread down.
Thanks for pointing it out, though.
