Everything I have read about the says they are nite time chaps. But I have
something thats very weevil like and there are loads over my salad crops and
corn and wallflowers. I have had weevil larve over winter so I am still
thinking its these chaps? They are very slow and easy to catch but there are
so many that in a day they have decimated my salads so much so I gave up.

I would says they are max 5mm long, round bottom end with a slight stripe.
They have a darker head and nose and the nose is very pointy. Are these
weevils?

Weevils are distinguished from beetles by having a long pillar-thing
sticking out of the front of their face - a rostrum???? - with, IIRC,
feeler like things on the end of it.

They also tend to be slow moving and careful

This is weevils in general - there are lots of different species of
them, not just vine weevils.

Hello amber,
What you are describing is the characteristic shape of a weevil -
because of the pointed nose.
I am thinking that this isn't a vine weevil.  There are many weevils
and a number are pests - boring into grains of wheat, leaf eaters etc.
Here is a link that has a pic of a vine weevil on it.
http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0600/vineweevil.asp
the picture of the weevil is not the best but note the dark colour and
the small spots in a line.

Am sorry but I am not an entamologist and cant identify it.  You say
they are on the mentioned plants, is there any damage bening done to
the tops of the plants? (for it is the grubs that normally damage
roots)

I have seen/read the HDR and RHS pages already its their info thats
making me wonder what I have! I have been looking for weeks without any
real luck ;-((((

The plants looks like they have flea beetle damage. As I have been hit
hard by that its hard to tell whats the weevils and whats the flea
beetles. But the weevils are in very large numbers atm so I am
presuming the damage is from them. There are lots of small holes and
pittings on the leaves. As yet I have not seen any grubs since the
Spring which ate the strawberrys and also the succulent plants (which
is the source of that infection).

This seems to be a new attack. I had the numbers bad a month or so back
and then not so many. Now they are back in full force. I have dumped in
boiling water a load of plants (RIP to the plants) and used sticky tape
on the other plants. But I have spent many days hunting the web under
all sorts to try and ID them. I am very nervous as I collect cacti and
succulents and these things are all over (in and out of the
greenhouse). I also did a vine weevil biological control last week -
but keeping the soil wet is hard plus some of this stuff I just killed
off is new plantings.

I have been trying to find a page thats a list of UK weevils or UK
beetles but without any luck. They either have poor pictures or just
say about one or the other. There must be something. I guess my next
thing would be bottling some put and posting it to the RHS?

When I try and pick them put they fall onto the soil or the center of
the plant so are hard to get in any numbers.

Thanks for the reply so far.

I've never had a weevil attack on my cacti.
