I want to leave cutting my lawn until late autumn
then take a hand scythe to it
anyone here do tis?
if so, where do you get your sickle and whetstone?
and what type of scythe do you use
I see B&Q have a compact 'folding reaping hook'
thanx

I think that first you have to decide just what you want to do.
Cut it with a sycle or with a scythe, they are very different from
each other.
You dont say how much grass you have to cut, or for that matter why
you want to cut it by hand.
I presume you have never used either tool, going by your question.
I think in that case you would be better using a good strimmer.
In my time I have cut overgrown lawns bu hand with a scythe and with a
sycle and take it from me it is hard work when you know what you are
doing.
I learned to use them long before strimmers were invented.

maybe I'm living in the past....
but I used to be a gardener in my youth
and we cut long grass once/year with a short sickle in one hand
and a bamboo cane in the other to lift the grass up
used to motor along for hours without feeling tired

have to say I try to keep in trim
but it really is very easy to over-estimate one's own abilities and powers
of recovery as you get old
