Lhud sing goddamn.
My courgettes have stopped producing female flowers, even my beans
have started to set badly, and my squashes are showing signs of
losing foliage before ripening. And I have jalapenos but no other
chilis.
All right, a lot of this was that I didn't get into action until
the year warmed up, and July hit before the plants had grown properly,
but August has been MISERABLE.
Regards,
Nick Maclaren.

Miserable? That's an understatement. It's like the end of the world up
here in Bolton with torrential rain and wind.

Bolton was ever like TEOTW :-)
The start of August was still great weather here but the last week
has been cool and very wet. I can smell autumn. The butternut squash
have decided they betternot bother flowering, let alone fruiting, but
all the courgettes have been very good. The runner bean refuseniks who
don't do heights, are heaps of leafy, flowery, even fruiting beanery
all round the foot of the poles. This was saved seed from last year's
Painted Lady , which climbed effortlessly last year. I can only think it
must have crossed with some of my french beans to make a new
non-twining, non climbing bean(Leaves and flowers still look just like
PL). We're still picking potatoes, peas and broadbeans. Sweetcorn not
quite ready yet. The lemon tree (which went outside for the summer sun)
has a dozen full sized fruit but they are green. no sign of ripening
yet.
Crocosmia in yellow, red, peach, pink, orange, hemerocallis,
hydrangeas, fuchsias, agapanthus, penstemons, verbena, nasturtiums and
rudbeckia are all brilliantly in flower still, plus some lilies I
planted late.

Lucky you, at least you have had some rain, there's been very little here in
East Berks, and nothing is growing well, in fact some things have died off!
