Can anyone please help me to identify this tree growing in my local
park?

It was hard to photograph the foliage in the shade, so I snapped the
ones growing out of the trunk. They are very distinctive.

Taken last week (30th June).

Thanks in advance.

Probably some kind of ornamental crab apple (malus)

I have attached a couple more pics below which should aid
identification.

Any more ideas?

You could describe any flowers or fruit you've noticed. I still think
it's a crab apple.

I wasn't sure with the first image, Janet, but I felt the twiggy growth
in the canopy to be more like Prunus, perhaps something like Prunus
cerasifera Nigra??  I'm prepared to be wrong, but I have a Crab Apple
(Malus sp) and a Prunus with dark foliage, and think the pics are nearer
the Prunus.  I would go out and look, but it's dark now!
