Had our second and third bumble bees today as well as the first
butterfly of the year, not supprising as the temp went up to 63f in
the shade today (Tuesday) just outside Swansea.
Buuds bursting everywhere.
Our thrush is singing his head off (sorry Sacha, we don't have a spair
one for you).

Mean - mean and selfish. ;-)) I do envy you and wish I knew why
thrushes seem not to thrive here. One pair only in umpteen years -
it's so sad! On Tresco the wretched things are bustling about all over
the place! But as to temps I do agree - it really is spring like now.
Today started with quite a fog here but it cleared slowly to mere grey
and by this afternoon was really sunny and warm. Driving up the M5 I
actually had the AC on this afternoon. There's a 'softer' feel to the
air, the weather is wonderful compared to some early parts of March and
we've even had customers sitting outside for lunch and tea. In the
house, the CH is turned right down (this is a very warm house) and if
it does come on at night it's almost a nuisance.
On the plant front we're hoping that Dahlia Engelhardt's Matador will
have survived in the garden, as well as D. excelsa that you gave us.
Some of Ray's more mature Diascia personata have taken a really bad hit
so we're waiting to see if there's any signs of life. It's such a
good, tall, colourful and easily bulking up plant, that we'd be sorry
to lose it. From a nursery pov, this winter has been interesting,
though. It's testing, to say the least!

Gardening in West Cornwall overlooking the sea.
Mild, but very exposed to salt gales

Why bemoan the fact, try eating it

or just add it to sandwich or salad
