I've just been given a lovely rhubarb. How much space should I allot it in
the bed? I mean, how big can I expect it to get?
How much sun and water and feeding does it prefer? Any pre-planting
preparation advice?

Thanks, I just found this post. Turns out I tried to start a new thead with
the same title as an old thread, so this has got buried at the bottom of the
old one....

If you do the job properly, give each crown eight feet to cover.
My tutor (back in the '50s) advocated digging a pit four feet deep by
two feet square, and filling it with old leather and woollens (acquired
for a song after a jumble sale) at the bottom, well-rotted manure, old
bones, bonemeal, compost, and the original spoil mixed with compost/well
rotted manure piled on top.
There will be a mound. Plant the crown in the top, and keep it well watered.
While it is growing, it's difficult to give it too much water. (I give
mine about eight gallons a day.)
