We have some lovely red hot pokers in our garden which flower every
July.  I read somewhere that if I dead head them once they've died then
they will come up again but they never have.  Is there anything else I
should be doing, just seen some in London in full bloom!

Thanks
Trazza

IME, they only really flower once in a season, but different varieties
flower at different times of the year, some early, some late. It's the
later flowering ones you're seeing now. I dead-head mine, but just to
keep the clumps looking tidy rather than to expect a second flush of
flowers.

Oh, my mistake - the OP meant again in the same season?  That makes more
sense.  :-)

Ours are large ones and they flower in May, there are some down the road on
the verge that flower very late and I've seen them in flower at Christmas,
depends on variety as they only flower once a year so if you want flowers
all year round keep a lookout.

This is not going to be any help at all to you, I'm sure, but we have some
on the allotment which were there when we got it, we've never touched them,
have never dead headed  (apart from when the kids decided to hit them with
sticks!), and they've always come back each year.  In fact, they're getting
to the point where they're taking over the path when they are at full growth
