Dave that is an interesting point, one I have raised in another forum I
subscribe to which has had some very interesting answers. I asked the
question ........
...................................................................
How long, ........
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
........ without altering your eating habits toooooooooooo much, could you
last out without going out to shop?
With what we have in the house, fridge and freezer, I think the two of us
would last about two, possibly three weeks.
How long would you last and how many are there of you in the house?
.......................................................................
Now I anticipate that with the avid gardeners here, especially those with
allotments, veg won't be a problem, but what about the other stuff?
Be interested to see the response :-))
Happy New Year everyone.

I thought you might like to see one of the replies ......
""Oh Dear,
Going wrong somewhere! We would only last a couple of days, rely on fresh
food and veg, very little frozen food or tinned!
Has made me think, what if we were snowed in? Unlikely, but given the
climate change, possible.
Will be stocking the freezer with emergency rations - soon!!
So, Thanks Mike, gave me 'food' for thought!""

Do YOU shop daily?????????

Depends how long different people can do without! and starvation.
We all need food thats obvious, but some crave tobacco others alcohol and
would kill if cornered.
I love lamb chops but can survive without them quite happily, my daughter
loves any fish, my oh loves to be left alone with a big bar of chocolate.
The thing is I think that we can live until our cupboards are empty, such
as I hate cream of mushroom soup, and we all do in our house though we
have tins and packets in the house, don't know why, but we can get
nourishment from it.
If the pathetically small freezers we have, packed up working at the same
time then it's survival of the fittest.
But thats altering too much.
I am an avid gardener but all my winter veg are a sloppy mush, rotting
now after 2 months of sub zero temperatures.
There are only 3 of us now son wed, but we would survive a month at best.

I think the problem would be for us milk, we do have some cartons of UHT
in stock, plus a 4 pint bottle in the freezer. Having just had a whole
lamb from the farmer up the road, and a freezer full of soft fruit, I
think the two of us could last for many weeks. Diet would be a bit
monotonous, particularly when the veggies run out (& were short on spuds
at the moment!).
