We had to empty some bookshelves because we're having the walls
painted. Hidden in the 'gardening section' we found the above really
useful little book by A.T. Johnson & H.A. Smith. The original was
printed in 1931! I have another very erudite and wordy botanical
dictionary somewhere which is so good at its job that I don't really
know where to start using it when I want a simple definition of a
botanical description. This little volume cracks that problem. If
anyone finds it in a second-hand books shop somewhere, I recommend they
grab it fast!

What was the title, and who was the publisher? A quick search on The
Advanced Book Exchange reveals lots of gardening books by AT Johnson
on his own, and one by HA Smith, but nothing available by the pair of
them, worldwide, so it won't easily be found I guess. Arthur Johnson
was an authority on heathers among other things, and has a variety of
E. x darleyensis (E.carnea x E. mediterranea/erigena) named after him.

Thanks Sacha. I realised that when I saw Jake's reply. When I did my
ABE search I assumed publication dates in the range 1925 to 1935, and
didn't think of reprints. Brain wasn't working very well last night
:-(

A popular book judging by the number of reprints.

At time of looking their marketplace sellers had a new one for £15 and
14 second hand from 61p! Looks like it was reprinted in 1986.
