I forgot to ask you if you got that Rhamnus to germinate from the seeds?

No, and it suffered a lot of wind blast damage this year as well, I thought
they were bomb proof! I have never got a single cutting off it yet I grew it
from a single cutting taken from David Knuckeys garden years ago.
Nice to see you both before the days onslaught, bet it was hot later!

Ray gave up and bought some in this year. Ours in the garden has been
knocked over by the wind at least 3 times. It has now had a severe
trim back and has a very stout stake . It's a mature plant so I can
only assume they don't root deeply. It's towards the bottom of the
garden opposite the 'boat border' and I think wind whipping up the
valley must come over the wall lower down and just catch it in a mini
whirlwind.

We enjoyed the natter and yes, it was really hot later. Must have been
really hot for you, driving home. The nursery was steadily busy but not
swamped and ditto the tea room. Bet Monte was a happy boy when you got
home! Thanks for bringing the Clematis, too. For the benefit of
others, as they were calling in here anyway, I'd asked Charlie & Liz to
bring me one C. Bill Mackenzie as we've run out and I wanted one for
our garden. Instead, he recommended Lambton Park which is now happily
climbing up a pillar towards the ropes at the top. It has the biggest
flowers of its type and a long flowering season, which is exactly what
I want. *And* it's scented, so thank you, Charlie!
