Never, ever go out or go to bed and leave machines running.  We've just
had a fire in the house kitchen, caused by the dishwasher bursting into
flames.  Thank heavens for smoke alarms and for fire brigades.  Four
years ago, the washing machine caught fire and the man who fitted the
new one told us he'd known 3 do that in 12 months.  One resulted in the
house being burned down.  All is well here apart from a messy kitchen
and some slightly frazzled nerves!

Very good regarding domesticappliances.  My dishwasher will never burst into
flames - she's too old :-)

It wasn't by any chance a Bosch, Neff or Siemens branded one was it?
We recently had a circular in the post from BSH Home Appliances
warning that a limited number of these machines might have a faulty
component that could overheat and catch fire. Batch numbers were in
the range FD 7901 to FD 8504. They gave a web site where you could
register to get the part replaced FOC by an engineer who would call on
you. Ours comes in about two weeks.

We run both our dishwasher and washing machine overnight, to take
advantage of Economy 7 cheap rate lectrickery.

Thanks for that but no, ours was none of these.

I do too, for the same reason.  Although I don't have a dishwasher, my
washing machine is a Bosch.  Eeek.  Now you've both scared me.
