I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm trying to find a bolt that
can be fitted at the top of a door but which can be slid open from
either side of the door. IOW, it's to keep small children on one side
of the door, while allowing adults to get through the door, too, from
either side! It would be a bit like one of those sliding bolts they
used to have in lavatories but would work from both sides of the door!
I'm almost sure I've seen something of the sort in the past but am not
certain. If I didn't, consider this to be a patent application!!

Anything wrong with fitting one of these higher up and out of reach?

Suggest that you have a look in http://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/ If
there is such a thing as you describe (other than a rack bolt which would
require a key to be available on either side of the door) they are more
likely to have it in stock than anyone else I can think of.

Thanks. I'll ask our local ironmonger and see if they can come up with
anything. And no, we don't want something with a key either side of
the door - certain to get lost, pocketed, dropped etc.

Just fit a standard door catch too high for them to reach.
