The loss adjuster was here this morning.  He's currently dealing with a
claim for a fridge freezer which went up in flames at a house in
Torquay, causing a lot of damage.  Put smoke alarms in
garages/outhouses!

We not only have smoke alarms everywhere, because of the beams in the
house, but also a gas detector and a Carbon Monoxide Detector.  We
also have a fire extingusher in the kitchen and in the scullery where
we have a second cooker.  Of course, we had a fire and that's why we
are so careful, it was a horrid experience and one which leaves one
nervous as I'm sure you will know Sacha.  How many times will you say
"I smell smoke"?  As many as me I expect :-)

This is why I've gone on about it.  I know it's OT and I do mark it as
such but I am absolutely amazed at the number of people we've talked to
since our kitchen fire who have no alarms or extinguishers.  Our
personal experience has caused some people to go out and buy both,
whereas before, they hadn't given it a second's thought.

I'm panicking that I've lost my smell & taste from the beginning of August
and as I have a woodburner I really need to smell smoke in case it sparks
out on to my carpet, which has happened before.
There's no point in having a smoke alarm in that room as it would go off
every time I opened the woodburner door to refuel it.

Tina, I have a woodburner, as long as the flue is open when I refuel
it, no smoke comes into the room.  I also have a woodburning Aga type
cooker in the kitchen, again I open the flue before refuelling and we
have smoke alarms.  I hope you get your taste and smell back, sounds
like an infection to me but what do I know?
