Oh, it's quite different here in South Devon - sometimes it's drizzle
and sometimes it's steady rain and sometimes it's hurling it down in
sheets. The sky is persistent in its habit though, uniformly grey and
about 6" above the big greenhouse roof! I can barely see the trees a
couple of fields away.

I don't have any sympathy with you all ;-)
Apart from a couple of weeks in October when it was apparently quite
nice (and I was in Greece), it's been like that here for the last three
years. This summer we've been listening to all the southerners moaning
about empty water butts and talking about all your butterflies, which
here it's been uniformly grey and damp, and you've been lucky to see
even a cabbage white.

No, quality of life (apart from the current weather) is far too good up
here
