I'm absolutely thrilled - we've just seen one of these on some Verbena
bonariensis.  We haven't seen them for a couple of year and think this
last hot spell has brought it out but I'd love to hear more from people
who really do know about their habits/requirements.  This speciment
wasn't as large as some we've seen in earlier years on Salvia
involucrata (same flower border)  but it was such a pleasure to spot
it.  Our grand daughter, who is 9, didn't remember seeing them before
and as she's really getting into the whole nature and wildlife thing,
she was enchanted by this lovely little moth.

You are so lucky, I've never seen one, and would love to.

I'll try to photograph one, or get Ray to do so.  He's far better than
me at such things.  It's an extraordinary sight in an English garden
somehow and we've had customers absolutely swear to us that they've
seen humming birds here.  Now that we've seen one and around 5pm to 6pm
when they're usually active here, I hope we'll see more on warm
evenings.  This one was seen just after 6pm.

We get them most years here in Cornwall.  I haven't seen one yet, but
last year we had two or three.  And last week in the Golf Club entrance
I found a live Oleander Hawk Moth which is even bigger than the Humming
Bird hawkmoth.

He spoke with a certain what-is-it in his voice, and I
could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far
from being gruntled.

We last saw one here about two years ago and it was bigger than the one
we saw yesterday, so now I wonder if that was the Oleander hawk Moth
you mention.  It was on Salvia involucrata on several warm evenings.
We looked for last night's sighting today but no sign of it at all.
