Perhaps slightly off-topic, but my husband and I remember standing in fields
as children and hearing grasshoppers all around. We have a few here but we
never seem to hear that sound now.
Where have they all gone?

Same place as the huge moths and the thousands of butterflies and bees, etc.
Methinks we are well on course for this world of ours to be broke and
not fixable from our point of view.

Not all of them haven't. One popped out of a wheel trim a couple of days ago
when I checked the tyre pressure. It must have been an interesting
experience for him coming home from the allotment in circles!
We have two kinds at the allotment. One is green, and we call them
grasshoppers because they're green like grass. The other is brown, and we
call them crickets because they're brown like a cricket pitch.
