Gardeners' World Christmas Special
In a festive edition of the horticultural show, Monty Don and Rachel
de Thame spruce up Longmeadow by cutting back plants and moving a
holly tree that has become too big. Carol Klein discovers some of
Britain's best winter walks and Joe Swift visits an urban vineyard in
Hackney, east London, to find out what varieties of grape can be grown
at home. Poet Pam Ayres also demonstrates how she encourages wildlife
to visit her garden, before the green-fingered team reflects on the
past year

So what did we learn from this special programme?

1)  Monty Don has only one wheelbarrow without a punctured tyre! Most
gardeners have only one wheelbarrow.

2) Rachel de Thame likes 3 inches but if that can't be managed, it's a
case of the best you can do.

3) Pam Ayres has a few ideas that are so simple I wonder why I haven't
thought of them, like stuffing some hollow stems into an old cut down
plastic bottle to make an insect hide for the winter.

4) Carol Klein finds it impossible not to smile when talking about any
gardening subject and was the high point of the programme for me, as
usual!

Can't wait for Beechgrove!

Cheers, Jake

Raymond said he couldn't get over the ranks of spades and forks in the shed!
