What's everyone planting this year? I've asked for some more Tète á
Tète daffs, Spring Green tulips and a couple of other varieties of
tulip, the name of which I've now forgotten! I just hope I can find
Parkers catalogue now, to check up on what (I hope) I'm getting. Last
year, we planted all the tulips in large-ish pots and plunged them.
Then, when the tulips were finished, we just took the pots out leaving
the tulips to die back naturally somewhere out of sight. Then other
things were planted in the holes left behind.

Every year I buy some new bulbs, this year Tde T, white Hyacinth,
white tulips and white Lilies. I am trying to create a small area
that will be all white. By the time my bulbs are dying down, the
perrenials are coming up strongly and mask them. My garden is very
much an amateur affair but I enjoy pottering in it.

Have a look at the link I gave to the Gardening World Cup and click on
Jonathan Denby. There is a slide showing this British designer
standing in the white garden he created as a memorial. It's absolutely
stunning, imo. He also owns 4 hotels in Cumbria so I shall be working
on Raymond for a short holiday up there next year. We can combine
enjoying his beautiful work with a spot of ancestor-hunting! He has a
blog, too and this page shows a small photo of the memorial garden. I
really like his work.

I've got some purple tulips 'Negrita' and narcissus 'Silver Chimes' to
put in. Hoping the tulips will look good in front of something with
silvery or greyish foliage, and I read Chris Bearshaw enthusing about
'Silver Chimes' being scented which seemed a good enough recommendation
when they caught my eye in the garden centre.
Then I've got extra space to fill where I took out a rather boring
Lonicera nitida that had outgrown its welcome and was sacrificed a few
days ago. I've got a small Magnolia stellata that's been nurtured in a
pot from a mere twigling and I think it could probably be planted out
there now.
