My best guess is:
Ficus religiosa
One common name is 'Bodhi Tree' which is apparently where Buddha was sitting
when he found enlightenment. It wouldn't be a massive leap from 'tree where
Buddha found enligntenment' to 'Buddha's lantern'.
There's a picture of the leaves here if it helps:

The "Bo" or "Bohdi" tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment is
Fiscus religiosa but I've never heard that called Buddha's Lantern Tree,
even in Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The "Lantern Tree" is Crinodendron hookerianum from Chile which is more like
a large shrub but will grow to 6m eventually. Can't see why that should have
any connection to Lord Buddha but then we are talking about a US theme park
with roller coasters, water rides, zoo, etc. The main theme of that park is
Africa so is it perhaps an african tree.
A picture might help.

But there is only an insignificant number of Buddhists in Africa.

No number of Buddhists is insignificant - everone is a part of the
whole :-)
[ Now, was John Dunne a crypto-buddhist? ]
More seriously, in a world with guinea pigs and indian corn, a
mere confusion of continent is to be expected. I have no idea if
that tree is Buddha's Lantern, but coming from Africa would not be
an obstacle.
