Today is just lovely - absolutely still, not a breath of wind, bright
sunshine, blue sky, fluffy clouds. It's a spring day in January.
Happy Twelfth Night everyone!

Similar here but very cold, we had a slight frost last night.
Been out in the garden pottering about wearing more skins than an onion,
wooly hat pulled down over my ears, and gloves. More hot tea than the
average bladder can hold...still cold. Got some jobs done though, mainly
pruning of apple, pear and gooseberry bushes.
Now those winds have temporarily stopped it's lovely to be out in the
garden.
Happy Twelfth Night to you and everyone too.

Here the weather's been lovely and remarkably warm - 8C - been
outdoors in a T-shirt, collecting leaves from the one tree that
finally had its clearout over the last few days, and not feeling at
all cold.
Don't know if it's anything to do with the weather but suddenly the
masses of birds have disappeared. They went through less than half a
kilo of sunflower hearts yesterday (down from 3 kilos + a day) and
neither feeders nor table have been touched much today yet (before
anyone says it - not because I've been out there, I've been in front
garden and feeders are all in the back).
But there's been a hot debate here about whether twelfth night is
tonight or was last night. The consensus now is last night. Someone
said it's down to religion. Apparently, for Jews, the day starts at
sunset so the twelfth night, following the twelfth day, is tonight.
But for Christians the day starts at dawn so the twelfth day and night
were yesterday. Work that out :~)
A few years ago, we were so impressed with the Christmas tree that we
left it up, decorated, until Valentine's Day before it started
dropping needles badly. That was one of the luckiest years we've had!
But happy 12th or 13th night to all.
Cheers, Jake

My son rang us a few minutes ago from Manchester and he says, like you do,
that it's warm enough to wear a t-shirt.
Over the last few days with windy conditions the gulls have come inland and
again scoffed up the food we put out for the other birds.
Today there are no gulls but the birds will only eat bread and some will
only eat it spreaded with fat from our discard fat jar. No nuts have been
eaten either hanging or static from the bird table. Who knows why!

Hmmm! I think all the sparrows are in my garden, they got through 2 fat
balls a day in the last few days and I've had to refill the seed feeders
daily!
