An enormous thank you to Emerys, I received 3 maples from him
yesterday, in great condition. It was lovely to get the history of
the little trees, Emerys raised them from seed; 1 Amur Maple from the
Japanese Garden outside of New York City and 2 Acer Palmaturns grown
from seed from the garden of Ed Shirk, Vice President of the North
American branch of the Maple Society. I am off to Google Ed Shirk and
the Maple Society and also to learn more about Acers. Now look what
you have done Emerys; I'm supposed to be going out!! Thank you very
much indeed, I really do appreciate your kindness.

You're welcome Judith! I hope the maples will thrive in your garden.
Ed Shinn (not Shirk!) hosts gatherings to benefit the Maple Society at
his wonderful garden. While I haven't seen it personally, there are a
few pictures from the Spring 2010 meeting at this link:

I am indebted to Ed for his gift of seed last year, which has produced
lost of interesting seedlings.
There are many benefits to joining the Maple Society, like seed
distribution of rare species, our quarterly newsletter, specially guided
tours of some of the best gardens in the UK and Europe, conferences and
even trips to Japan! The Society's site is www.maplesociety.org.
Sacha I shall soon send you an Amur Maple, the post office wouldn't sell
me the box I needed... :/
cheers,
-E (Emery not Emerys! ;))

That would be really lovely, Emery but please don't do it if it's a
huge nuisance. You have my email address so let me know what that
costs if you do go ahead but as I say, not if it's going to mean a big
kerfuffle for you.

See my note to Emery, it's not a problem for me to bring it to London
and then post it on to you from there. What's your nearest airport, I
may well drop in on you for tea, is the tearoom open in Winter?
Furthermore, have you Googled that plant you want in France?

I've found the seeds for that plant, thanks to a lot of help from my
urg friends and I've sent for them. But thank you for that, Judith.
You can fly to us at Plymouth or Exeter and no, the tea room is shut
but the spare bedroom isn't! ;-) If you do plan to come let me know
a couple of dates so I make sure the grandson isn't in residence. ;-)
