I've tried to reseed those areas twice and the spots are still bare,
should I try a different brand of seed? Is it the sunlight? I'm
baffled why these certain spots on my lawn aren't growing grass
despite constant watering. I'm using Scotts sun and shade.

Has some kind of chemical, ie gasoline, oil, fertilizer etc., been
spilled there? How large are these "spots"? Take some samples and have
them analyzed. You may have to remove some soil and replace it.

Are the bare patches in areas of heavy wear or poorly drained areas? If
so the soil may be compacted and will need to be aerated. Watering may
simply be drowning the seed if this is the case.

It might have dampened off a bit, not unusual. Put down more seed.
