depends on the cultivar - small watermelon types grow on small vines - it's a matter of proportion to expected fruit size afaik. are you growing full-size watermelon? if so, something is probably seriously wrong!! if it's a small cultivar & the plant size is ok, probably a matter of fertilising the flowers. male flowers grow - 4

with potashe which dried the plant out and killed it. all my plants are well spaced out. the tomatoes down the side of the house have grown really well and the taste is really nice and sweet. i get about 40 tomatoes from each plant. the carrors, pototo and every thing else has gown as it should but not the watermelon plants. - 3

all i can say is that your watermelon vine is seriously demented. it should have taken over your garden by now with big leaves up to 30cm in diameter. does the vine look healthy? - 3

use for zuchinni, peppers (bell and jalepeno), the tomato plant (since there's only two of us we figure one plant will be plenty --same for the zukes) and the watermelon . my fiance wants to try watermelon! the yard itself is slightly sloped and faces north/south. virtually all of it is sunny all the time, except for the front of the - 2

i have read that watermelon should definitely not be exposed to human waste as the pathogens can get into the melons. it's something to do with large cellular or intercellular size. watermelon is the only risky fruit. andrew - 2

watermelon ou might be in for cucumbers! :-) do the leaves look green and healthy? no mildew? (with all this rain, most of the melon family are probably suffering mildew.) - 2

watermelon no set size, once it is big enough to flower a proportion of the flowers should start to set fruit if the conditions are right. it sounds to me like they are undersized for their age and also not setting fruit. re the fruit setting: can you see bees in the garden around the flowering plants, not just the melons, on any fine - 2

terribly attracted to the flowers. other than that, nothing odd to report. i think it might be too cool here for them really (i had a notable lack of success with my watermelon too - they simply just never got ripe) so perhaps that is part of the problem? when i pulled the okras out today, i did notice that the roots were all sort - 1

in the seventies and eighties here, a huge relief from 90 and 100 degree temps of just a couple of weeks ago. night time temps range from the 50s to the 70s. the air smells like leaves. strawberry plants are almost ready for cut back and cover. there is one lone watermelon left on a vine. tender herbs want to move back home. - 1
