for a product delivered to your land. i worked for a produce farmer in the early 1970's. the one thing i remember was that he said that cantaloupe (and maybe other melon s) had to have bees to pollinate. he would call a local bee keeper and request some hives be set near the melon fields when they came into bloom. something to - 3
i think you might be in for cucumbers! :-) do the leaves look green and healthy? no mildew? (with all this rain, most of the melon family are probably suffering mildew.) - 3
i dont have your answers. my melon s failed a couple of years due to the weather. melons have their growth stunted when the temp falls below 55 f, or 13 c, any time after they have they have been set out or come up from seed if you dont start them yourself in pots. a few years ago i had planted about 50 melon plants and - 3
once picked melon s don't ripen... people think they become sweeter but actually they begin to ferment/rot. i don't know how many melons you're talking about but if it's just a home garden with like a dozen or so i'd suggest cutting them open and checking the flesh, if they're tasty in the center then salvage what you can, cut into - 3
i am sorry to hear about your melon s. i'm afraid i don't know the answer to your question. i am completing a post for the most recent newsgroup posting for gardening...as was specified in my lansing community college class. i hope you have better luck next year with your melons and that you find that the ones you have this year - 2
good advice from all. also, contact the local extension folks (and talk to the rez folks. they have been growing melon s for centuries) cheers oz, cursing at the ice storms - 2
cukes are taking over the garden & producing like mad. my jimmy's white cukes are making lots of male flowers, but no female flowers. somehow i have an asian tiger melon growing in the cukes row, & it's also setting fruit like crazy, while the asian melons in their own corner only have fruits on 6 vines... my tomatoes - 2
at least monthly. kids test regularly also. we are all eating lower on the glycemic index and the results have been positive. wifey and i both drink a glass of bitter melon decoction daily. prior to starting the low gi and bitter melon i was running 1 0-130 fbs and she was 1 5-135. hers is in the 100teens now. my last fasting - 2
i like hawthorne berry, bitter melon , garlic, prunella (self-heal) *billy*, vitamin c , k and d, cinnamon and pycnogenol (aka pine bark). i also drink pomegranate juice. just found out that bitter melon can be dried and will store well. i shop here http://www.pennherb.com/index.html as they close about 35 miles. bill - 2
not surprisingly, we have had early frosts to complement the late spring. my melon plants are dead, and i have some yellow canary melons that are small - six inches long, four inch diameter, and more green then yellow. question - will these ripen on the shelf, or are they as ripe as they are likely to get? - 2
