i love fresh lima bean s, but i never seem to get more than a few meals worth from a dozen or so plants around a bean tower. i planted burpee's big mama pole limas this summer and the flavor is wonderful-- very sweet, but they're just not very productive. romano beans planted several feet away have so many beans i can't keep up - 7
chris growing up in the southeast (central nc) i have seen the best mole solution (or at least, a major improvement) has been to plant castor bean seeds at various locations around the perimeter of my property, as well as in a few other random places too. castor bean plants are annuals in zones less than 10 or so, but they seed toward - 6
although on the i.w. we've had dry weather my bean s are fantastic. the secret? a few years ago i bought a length of leaky pipe for my front garden bedding plants and they did well so this year i used the pipe around the wigwam of canes in the small raised bed to support the bean plants. when the dry weather really started - 6
would most likely be a good choice for the location of the op. to many people overlook climate considerations when making the choice of variety. a consideration soy bean farmers will do well to understand. for example, the northern bean farmer needs a variety capable of reaching early maturity, group 4 would be their best choice. while - 5
my dad always said that hilling the bean s helped to keep away the bean fly. it doesn't seem to make sense but i still do it. only ever had a couple of beans die from bean fly. lionel. - 5
i looked for a photo of a bean fly on google images, and don't recognise it as a problem in the temperate regions. i have a couple of suggestions. you could try phoning one of the radio gardening advice programs and asking there. even though the consultant may not know, there are likely to be many listeners who do. the sydney programs - 4

is anyone else suffering a very poor runner bean crop this year ? this is the poorest year i can remember. the blossoms seem to be mainly falling off the plant, without setting at all. perhaps one or two out of a possible 15 blossom might set on my runner bean plants. very disappointed. here's what i've been doing, for any experts - 4
plants had what looked like bugs & either eggs or droppings, but i'm not sure. other plants in the garden are fine, except just yesterday i found bugs in my pole bean s: please see the pictures below. i don't know what happened to the tomatoes, any advice on what it could have been will be appreciated in case it happens again. any help - 3
