Something is eating my basil...

i have three pots with sweet basil (for cooking) on my deck, and something is eating all the leaves, they are fool of holes. i tried spraying insecticidal soap every other day, but it doesn't do anything. i believe they are japanese beetles, so i put a bag-a-bug next to it. the bag filled up with the beetles, but the basil - 4

depends on the plant, but generally you can grow smaller plants by keeping them trimmed. i grew a few basil plants in pots this summer and the ones in small pots stayed small with smaller leaves, and the ones put directly into the soil grew 3 feet high with larger, more tasty leaves than the ones in the smaller 6" pots. - 2

Potting soil

tell me again, why isn't potting soil re-used? i'm getting ready to pot the sweet basil in the pots that i used last year. it seems a little manure would, rock phosphate, wood ash, and bone meal would have it back in shape. there were no disease problems with the basil last year. whatcha think? - 2
