help my lawns all patchy and horrid!!

 
hi ive just moved into my first home and the grass was all nice and
green but
very long so my partner cut it ( a tad too short admitadly)
and now its very
patcy and theres more soil than grass!
and loads of weed so i wanted to re seed it but my partner said to feed
it so he
bought a cheap wilko feed weed and moss killer and applied it
by hand, the
gardens really really bad now.
the packet says you shouldnt re seed now its down, when can i because
its really
bad!!!
help!!

I assume you are in the UK, but it would always be helpful if you
stated it.   I'd go through the rest of this season with what you
have.   You can either overseed or kill off whatever is there and re-
seed in early Fall.   That's the best time of year.   It's generally
too late to start from seed at this point.  Not that you can't do it,
just that you will have a lot of competition from weeds, need
substantial amount of watering in hottest weather, etc.   Also, you
apparently can't even seed now because of the product you just put
down.
