I live in south eastern Ontario, Canada.
I plan to buy a maple (probably red maple but not 100% sure) from a local
landscaping place. Their maples are roughly 10 feet tall in 24-36" diameter
pots.
Is timing crucial at all? should I wait til next spring? No difference?

im no expert but have better luck planting them when they are dormant
, late fall to winter.

Or spring, depending on where you are. I like spring planting in Maine
because of the cold. Also like bare root saplings.
Our church planted a Japanese Red Maple this summer and the Japanese
beetles did a job on it, so another reason to wait for fall or spring.
You really want root growth before you want leaves. So prune fairly
heavily with spring planting.
