Spectracide has problems after all!

 Well, I guess either I wasn't as careful with the Spectracide weed
killer sprayed on with the garden hose; or last year when I did it, I
did it at the recommended time of year (the start of spring iirc) and
maybe the trees wouldn't have leaves then.  

But this time I got some spray on two trees and about 20 leaves
witherer and died on each tree.  I didn't notice for a week and then I
broke off the dying leaves.  Now it's two weeks since I sprayed and no
more leaves are dying.  Both are deciduous -- I forget what they are
-- one is about 30 feet tall** and one about 20.  Do you think it's
possible I killled the whole tree????  I hate to do it** but should I
cut the whole branches off that had dying leaves?  Of course I'd
ratehr do that than lose the whole tree.

I also lost one very low branch of a pine tree, one cedar bush, and
maybe parts of others.  Do you think this could be caused by overspray
by the Spectracide a year ago April????  I was careful and I thought
successful not to spray these things last time, and I think there are
other reasons each thing could have died, and I didn't notice wilting
leaves but there are all evergreen with different kind of leaves.   Do
you think it likely the Spectracide did it????

I've pretty much decided not to use this stuff anymore and go back to
the powerdered (tiny pellets) fertilizer and crabcrass or weed killer
I was about to give away.  I'm glad I didn't do it yet.  I'll still
get rid of bags number the two or three bags that don't have this
stuff.  The crabgrass killer is in bag 1, and I hate to fertilize in
April when it grows so fast anyhow, and I sometimees don't have the
lawn mower working yet, but I don't like killing things with
overspray. ;(

**The 20 foot tree is just outside my 42 inch fence on unbuilt land,
and one or two big branches overhangs the fence.  The 30 foot tree
grew on its own from a seed that landed there! maybe 20 years ago.
So they're both like freebees.  I have the benefit of a tree without
wasting much land on either one, or any energy.  


I originally wrote just to tell you guys the problem with water-spray
weed killer  -- I felt responsible after saying I was happy with the
results -- but these questions came to mind while I typed.

 
Short answer, no. I'm in a forest out here and I can not kill a real tree
with glyo. YMMV.

 

Thanks.  BTW, the specracide mix with garden hose herbicide was from a
year ago and still as strong, afaict.
