Reseeding a turf lawn

 
Is it ok to just sprinkle lawn seed on top of the lawn, as i dont have a
problem with birds

areas, you can do that by using a rake or similar to rough up the
soil.  For larger
areas, best solution is to rent an over-seeder machine.   That cuts
grooves in the
soil and drops the seed.  Do the math.  Spend $50 on seed and see most
of it
go to waste.  Or spend $50+ $65 and have excellent results.
