How about some recommendations for houseplants which will  give the room a
nice fragrance?

Cyclamen. It's a big family of plants, but the ones commonly sold in
supermarkets are referred to often as "florist's cyclamen". The white ones
are the most fragrant, from what I've noticed. Not the easiest plant to care
for. Study first.
