I bought three taro roots about the size of pullet eggs at the Chinese
grocery last week. I picked roots that were starting to sprout. How
big do the plants get? And do I need to put them someplace swampy for
them to thrive? I figure they will look like "elephant ear" caladiums.

Up to about 1m high, they will multiply and spread as wide as you let
them in good conditions.

They will grow in a swamp but don't need to be in one. You must keep
them damp, especially when it is hot and/or dry, they won't take
drying out too well. Oh and they are frost tender. Yes they do look
like elephant ears.
