My sister-in-law grows them in Indiana and hers do OK. And, as I
recall she had a hard time finding them in her area too. I think she
finally found a mail order catalogue with them.   I'm wondering if the
camellias will offer a little protection from frost too?  I've had
luck saving plants by putting a scoop of compost over them when a
frost is coming up.

I have a five year old ceanothus that I LOVE.  But it's getting up
there and every time a leaf turns brown I freak out because I think
it's all over.  I think part of the key is keeping them dry.  Either
never water them, or make sure the soil drains very well and it is dry
before watering again.  They're used to 5 or 7 inches of rain a year.
Good luck!
