my small garden is half finished...I am in zone 5 - Michigan and wondering
if I should now plant cover crop where I have harvested onions & beets? If
so what should I plant? I have also access to large amount of tree leaves
- mostly oak....which I could shred and work into soil in fall.....which is
better or can I do both?

This is a little used English newsgroup so I doubt you will get a sensible
reply.
Try... rec.gardens which I believe is mainly a US based newsgroup.
Most of the UK gardeners are on... uk.rec.gardening
