I'm quite brutal, and cut them off at 6ft. I have tried tieing them
down, but found that unless you checked every week, they went up again.
Also, growing high takes energy, better used for fruit production! I
don't think the plant will care much either way, but more cane might
mean smaller (but more) fruit.
Last year I grew them up an 8ft bamboo wigwam, seemed as effective as
wires, and slightly easier for a smaller garden.
