Hi All,

I'm currently starting a small gardening business and have a maximum of £250
to spend on a petrol mower.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reliable brand and even better a
model for within my price range.....

Thanking you in Advance

Simon

Personally I like the Hayter range of mowers mainly because they have metal
decks and because you can get spares for them if need be. For £250 you will
be nowhere near the price of a new Professional type model (£850 up) but you
may be able to pick up a secondhand, possibly reconditioned, model for that
money. Ask around any good garden machinery stores in your area, they may
have some "trade ins". Take care it's not completely knackered.
Alternatively you could go for a non-professional model but even then £250
isn't going to get you far up the range.

Hi Bob, so what do you think would be the best new model i could get for up
to £300?

Its only a part time buisness, 3 days a week and i dont expect the mower to
be going all day.... i will get a 12 month warranty anyway so if it goes in
that time i will take it back

So more like a private big lawn use than professional then.
Take a look at their site and see which mower you like the look of
http://www.hayter.co.uk/
None of the petrol modes are cheap but there may be something there that
would suit you and the type of work you intend putting it to.

I reckon that our Champion mower is the best thing we've put our money into.
We mow our grass about once a week and we have a 150 foot garden, so it's no
mean feat.

My girlfriend used all last year while she was Girl Friday Garden
Maintenance and had no bother with it, that was on top of our own grassy
areas.  You'll be surprised that it was £100 new and has a briggs and
Stratton 3.5 hp motor and three years on, it still works like a charm.  It
has five height settings and a 40lt grass collector.

I'll grant you, it doesn't do stripes and the blade may be disfficult to
replace, but we just resharpen our and make sure that rocks, bricks and
bedsteads are out of the grass before we mow.
