Does anybody know if it is possible to hire a lute, which I understand is
very useful when top-dressing a lawn to even out hollows?
Any information gratefully received.

You might find a lute useful for spreading seed of fertilizer but I can't
see it as much use for filling in hollows in a lawn. Just use a long
straight piece of wood and scrape it across the grass with some loose
compost so the hollows get filled in. Grass will soon grow through as long
as it's not completely buried.
