Fatsia Damage

 Hi,

I have a ordinary green fatsia plant in a pot (shady location).

Every year it starts to grow OK then gets black blotches on leaves
some of which seem to be eaten with a lot of small irregular holes.

It struggles on year after year and ATM has some flowers for the first
time!!

It never gets very big,  its only about 14 inches high,  I assume it is
because it is loosing all its vigour.

I cannot see any insects but have read it could be thrips.

Could someone advise on the likely cause and what I should do solve the
problem?

The new leaves are fine,  but after removing the damaged ones in the
summer, the 6 month old leaves are now becoming damaged.

They do well planted out in most areas of the country, it prefers a lightly
shaded place.
That said, if you want to keep it in a pot then is your pot big enough, do
you water it enough, do you water it too much, have you repotted it recently
with fresh compost, did you use peat based compost and is it therefore being
damaged by Vine Weevil and/or their grubs (eat the roots), so may
possibilities.
