Any pineapple growers here?  When I was a kid Mum would sometimes boil the
skin and core of a pineapple, decant the liquid and add sugar to make a
cheap but tasty drink.

I don't much like the modern candy-sweet pineapples, but saw the recipe
for pineapple syrup as a spread for toast and thought I may try it with a
clean-looking pineapple.

I'll scrub the pineapple before peeling it, but would like to check here
first in case the fruit is sprayed or dipped in fungicide before being
sent to market. Anyone able to say one way or t'other?

Be careful. I used to make a beaut drink. I used to put about half the fruit
through a vitamiser and boil the skin and add the resulting liquid to the
fruit and a bit of sugar. I bought a pineapple from a roadside stall. I told
the lady at the stall what I was going to do and asked if any poisons had
been used on the fruit. She assured me that none had. I made my drink up and
boy did I get sick. I can't prove that it was the drink that damned near
killed me, but I have never made the drink again. Sadly, I can't grow decent
pineapples in my garden.
