I've had a can-o-worms worm farm running for about 2 months now. It
started off fairly well, but recently there have been more and more
maggots inside it and the worms aren't really coming up to the layer
with the food.
I can't be sure, but looking at the bottom layer it appears that the
number of worms is decreasing.
I added some lime as suggested to get rid of maggots, but it doesn't
seem to have done anything.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks
Lionel.

More lime?
Are you applying it directly to the maggots?
Seems that flies are ableto enter the worm farm and lay eggs. Can you
improve the screening.

Is it possible to add too much?

Not really. Does it need to come in direct contact? Can the lime kill
the worms? I don't want that to happen.

I'm not too sure how they could get in. There are only very small holes
in the lid that I doubt a mozzie would get through!

Lime powder will definately kill worms if it comes into contact with
them. I was asking if you were sprinkling it directly on the maggots. It
should kill them okay and then help break down their bodies, which would
make it safe for the worms.
Do not spread it on top of the worm farm. I'm not sure if worms can
detect it before it affects them.

It only takes the lid being ajar for a day. Unless they came in on
something you added.

I was answering about putting it in contact with the maggots. I spread
it across the vegies and stuff that I had put in the worm farm, some of
it came in direct contact, but most did not, I'll add some more right on
top of the little succkers.

Hmmm, that's a possibility, I wouldn't notice fly blow in the little
temporary kitchen bin.
