Cyatheas

 

How much root bal should be kept on these tree ferns?   What would the
minimum be.    I have a friend who wants to get rid of 4 that are 4 meters
high and have about 18-20cm trunks.
I live in the Hawkesbury region and the ferns are coming from Kurrajong
heights.

Depends on species -- there is one type where you can just chop the crown off
and plant that, like a pineapple.  I'd ring the local Australian Plants
Society group or a local specialist native or fern nursery for advice.

Thanks Chookie, but I did say Cyathea not Dicksonia which is the 'pineapple'
you stated.  Cyatheas need a root ball!
Not too many native gardeners out there eh?
