a well-fed cat is a much better hunter than a starved cat. i'm
sure *over-fed* cats might get lazy, but i keep my barn cats
well-fed with a high quality dry cat food (not cheap
supermarket stuff) & they do an excellent job of dealing with
the mice, voles, rats, squirrels, chipmunks, etc.
my barn cats are employees. they get food, a heated water
dish & heated bed in the winter, & health care. i treat them
well & they take care of the vermin.
eventually they'll need to retire (they're 5 this fall) &
then they'll become house cats & i'll hire new barn cats.
lee <also has 6 indoor cats, which are well fed & catch mice &
voles indoors>

I pinged a host that wasn't there
It wasn't there again today
The host resolved to NSA.
